Everett Man Involved in Officer-Involved Shooting in Everett Arraigned

EVERETT – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Everett Chief of Police Steven Mazzie have announced that Anthony J. Morrison, 45 of Everett, was arraigned yesterday virtually from Massachusetts General Hospital and charged with assault and battery on a disabled person over the age of 60 and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with allegedly physically assaulting his mother and pointing a BB gun at a responding EMT.

Judge Cesar Archilla ordered the defendant to be held pending a dangerous hearing scheduled for November 16, 2020.

On November 11, 2020, at approximately 10:46 a.m., first responders, including Cataldo Ambulance and Everett Police, responded to a Woodland Street residence for a report of an alleged ongoing altercation between two parties, known to each other, inside the home.

Upon arrival police located the victim, the defendant’s mother, suffering from physical injuries consistent with the reported physical altercation.  The victim told police that the defendant had a history of a mental health disorder. Due to the circumstances first responders determined that EMTs should enter the home and attempt to speak to the defendant.  While EMTs were in the home the defendant allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the responding EMT.

After multiple hours of negotiation with the defendant in attempt to get him to exit the home, officers deployed pepper spray. The man subsequently attempted to exit the home while allegedly still in possession of what appeared to be a firearm and engaged in an altercation with officers, allegedly charging at them in the doorway of the residence. The preliminary investigation suggests that at approximately 3:41 p.m. officers deployed less lethal munition striking, but failing to stop, the defendant before an Everett Police officer discharged his firearm, striking the defendant. Mr. Morrison was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he remains hospitalized.

This investigation is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police assigned to that office and Everett Police.
